M. Ferrante
The living seal. Every work leaves with Mateo’s thumb pressed in this colour, on the certificate that stays with it.Ground pigment, linen, north light.
Mateo trained as a restorer before he called himself a painter, and learned to read other people’s brushwork long before he trusted his own. His works are studies after the masters, painted in their materials and at their pace, each one close to a year in the making.
He works in oil, in a fourth-floor room above the Arno. He signs nothing. The thumbprint is enough.
